Refurbish DesignJet's

It’s a strange world we live in, everything is disposable and yet we are encouraged to recycle. At Hutchins IT Limited we excel in the recycling of HP DesignJet’s.

Every DesignJet we can refurbish and turn into a viable product reduces landfill and creates a low-cost alternative for CAD and design companies. Every DesignJet we recondition is carried out to the highest possible standard in accordance with our proven “Total Care Solution”. This is our “blueprint” to ensure a quality return on investment of time and resources.

By following our 8-step plan, like we do with every DesignJet repair, we are creating an environment of success based on over 20 years’ experience.

What’s Involved?

The refurbishment process is conducted in line with our Total Care Solution program. A process that has been developed using our 20+ years in the DesignJet repair sector.

This is basically an 8-step plan that ensures each DesignJet Repair we undertake, on-site, is carried out to a set standard to maintain a high quality and cost-effective Plotter Repair. This process is also adhered to when we refurbish a DesignJet.

The process is quite simple, but intensive, it must be to create the best possible end-product. By sticking to the basics of our Total Care Solution this is achievable. Although the refurbish process is 10 steps, each step is part of our Total Care Solution.

Step 1 – Assessment (Triage)

Firstly, the DesignJet is assessed for physical damage, scratches to the cover, broken parts etc. It is then given a power on test to see if any DesignJet Error Codes are reported. If the machine boots up with no errors – the print quality is evaluated. This then becomes the reference point of the Revamp.

Step 2 – Strip Down

Now we have a reference point, the overhaul can start in earnest. The machine is now stripped down to basics with all sub-systems removed. These are in turn cleaned and any worn/broken parts replaced.

Step 3 – Service Station

The service station is ALWAYS replaced with a reconditioned one. This is done no matter what the machine. Old ink builds up in the service station and can cause havoc if spilled. This process is also carried out for the ink spittoons.

Step 4 - Cleaning

Whilst all the subsystems are removed, the chassis of the plotter is thoroughly cleaned of all ink aerosol and any debris that may have accumulated over time. Paper dust and aerosol produces a sticky mess. Also, all in situ sensors are also cleaned.

Step 5 - Reassembly

When everything has been cleaned to the required standard the DesignJet is rebuilt with existing and refurbished parts as required. Moving parts are re-lubricated as necessary.

Step 6 – Primary Testing

Once rebuilt the Plotter is powered on and tested. Any errors incurred during the refurbishment process are resolved.

Step 7 – Consumables

Inks and print-heads are installed in the DesignJet. We do not use brand new consumables, unless necessary. These increases the cost of the revamp and thus the final sale cost of the plotter.

They are consumables as stated by the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer). That said we strive to only use ink cartridges that are above 50% full and all print-heads print are required to produce a good print quality.

Step 8 – Extensive Testing

Once the basic tests are carried out, the DesignJet is fully re-calibrated and comprehensively tested. This ensures every subsystem is operating at its optimal capacity. The print-heads are aligned and an extensive nozzle test is carried out. The test also includes the printing of the machine internal prints as well as system prints, using both the USB and the Network ports.

Step 9 – Correct Standard

The FirmWare is upgraded to latest version as per Hewlett Packard’s recommendations and the usage counters are resent, along with the network settings.

Step 10 - Cleaning

The outer covers of the DesignJet are fully cleaned and the DesignJet is now ready for resale.

At this stage the DesignJet Repair / Refurbish is complete. The machine is shrink-wrapped and ready for its new life providing quality printouts for every type of design engineer.

At Hutchins IT Limited we also provide a delivery and installation service for every machine. This is optional but ensure the HP Plotter is delivered and installed correctly.

Every machine comes with 90 days on-site warranty. Again a 12-month warranty upgrade is available at an additional cost.

We strive to provide the best quality refurbished DesignJet’s along with the best service and after sales support available.
